No dinner, but French Toast....

Well, atleast I am sticking to one of my resolutions, "waste not, want not." I was looking in my cabinet for inspiration and ran across a half loaf of wheat bread with the 9/3 on it.  My granny (my dad's mother) always said you can freeze anything, so I had an idea. Make french toast, freeze the pieces individually, and have them for breakfast in the next day or two. We will pop them in the toaster, so they are crisp and not limp, and I will be able to spend time with my family and have a homecooked breakfast.

Here's My Stack:

I made a batter of eggs, milk, and cake spice ( you can buy it at Save-A-Lot):

I whipped it with a fork and stuck my bread into the batter, then onto the frying pan.
I don't use oil, just Pam.

The key when freezing them is not to get them too brown, but to get them done.  This way they aren't too crisp when they come out of the toaster.

Set them aside to cool, if they are hot and sweat they will have ice crystals on them and stick to each other.

Use wax paper to separate the slices.

Before I could get them all wrapped my toddler came in for a piece.

Get out a gallon storage bag, stick your wrapped french toast inside.
Mark the bag, so it doesn't not become unidentified.
I push all the air out of the bag to keep it fresh.
Then, just stick it in the freezer.

Now, it's Sunday morning and I have a fresh batch of french toast waiting for my family. I am just glad I can spend more time with them instead of at the stove.

As I was getting ready for my in-law inspection, I lost track of time. Dinner was not made, but a run to Burger King was, now I remember why I wanted to cook. A trip to town and $25 later everyone was fed.

I rearranged my living room and swept under ever piece of funiture. I have learned over the years to leave no dust bunnies in the path of my mother-in-law.  So, I make sure to move and sweep everything, you have to understand, we have a papillion, so this is a major undertaking.  You would be surprised how many dog toys were under my couch and little balls of fur appear out of nowhere.

Due to my intensity (one of my friends called me intense years ago, thought it was kind of true, yet insulting), I had also put off hanging any decorations.  I wanted everything to match and be perfect before I hung up my pictures. I had to bite the bullet yesterday when my toddler looked up and said to me, "This doesn't look like our house." I was shocked, I asked, "Why, baby?" Her reply, "There's nothing on the walls."  So, yesterday was spend hanging decorations also, although they are not perfect, atleast it looks like people live here.

I have a new rule for myself, if I want to keep an object, I have to find a way to use it, otherwise it is sold or given away.  I am trying to declutter. Tomorrow, I will post what I did decorating wise to hang on to things I couldn't bear to part with on any terms.

Have a wonderful Sunday and Labor Day. Wishing you an easy breakfast in the future.....
